"Last Hurrah"

16 x 20

oil on canvas

The beautiful roses waited in their vase patiently while I was finishing a commission. I hoped they would endure until I could paint them. The next morning, all of the dark pink ones were bowing their heads and a petal had fallen. I made good progress painting them over three days time, although it was necessary to refer to a photo I had taken earlier for the refinement stage. This bouquet of roses retained its inner beauty, even as it was passing from this earthly plane.
